'Broom' coat rack
2024
Introducing Broom: a playful and pragmatic ready-made coat rack.
Broom is composed of 5 common hardware store brooms that are rearranged to offer a new function. The angled sides of the broom heads naturally create an arched base, with an array of broom handles at a range of useful heights for hanging and grasping. The handles emerge from a forest of inverted bristles that can be used as a boot cleaner.
The coat rack celebrates the humble materials of the broom, which was designed and made by Raven Products in New Zealand. Indonesian Arenga fibre bristles are directly contrasted with the New Zealand southern beech timber handles. The orange moulded plastic caps are also kept on display because they are perfect for hanging garments.
A sculptural blend of functionality and whimsy, Broom brings joy and practicality to any entranceway. This is a one off prototype - not currently for sale.
Raven brooms - Sustainably sourced South Island beech; Bristles (a mix of natural Arenga fibre and plastic filament); Plastic components are designed and moulded in Auckland.
